What You Cannot Grow. Unfortunately, every variety of hop is not available to be homegrown. Don't expect to grab Citra or Mosaic rhizomes and start growing all of your favorite hops. Patented hops like these two are not available to home growers like us.
We found that Citra, Simcoe, El Dorado, Amarillo, Galaxy & Azacca hops are commonly used alongside the Mosaic hop.
Many gardeners agree that Cascade hops are the easiest and most rewarding to grow because they are high yielding and disease resistant. If you'd like a little more of a challenge or just more variety, especially if you're growing your hops with beer in mind, then take a close look at Alpha Acids.
Another thing that I found out is that if you are looking for any of the big punchy U.S hops such as Citra, Simcoe or Idaho 7 - you might be a bit dissapointed to find out that these are unfortunately not available to the home grower. These hops are proprietary and also not available here in the U.K.
Rhizomes are shipped directly from the grower as soon as the soil is workable in the spring (usually mid April, depending on the weather).
Mosaic. Released in 2012, the Mosaic hop is the daughter of the bittering hop Simcoe. The wonderful berry fruitfulness of Mosaic is complemented by a contrasting earthy, piney taste.
